How to read your results

Compare a batch before you commit your time

This estimator separates the earnings components from driving costs so you can assess a batch using your own miles and vehicle-cost assumptions.

What does this Instacart batch calculator estimate?

The calculator adds batch pay, promotions and expected tips to estimate gross earnings. It divides gross earnings by the business miles entered to calculate gross earnings per mile. If you enter a vehicle cost per mile, it subtracts the estimated vehicle cost to show a net amount and net earnings per mile.

Understanding batch pay, promotions and tips

Shopper earnings can include batch pay, promotions and customer tips. Batch pay may reflect travel to the store and customer, item quantity and weight, and expected shopping time. Promotions and boosts can vary by batch and market. Do not assume every batch will include a promotion or that a displayed expected tip cannot change.

Why total business miles matter

The per-mile result depends on the mileage you enter. Consider the business driving you intend to associate with the batch, including relevant travel to the store and customer. If you only enter the delivery distance while driving additional business miles, the calculated earnings per mile may appear higher than your actual result.

Your own vehicle cost versus the IRS mileage rate

Your actual cost per mile can depend on fuel, maintenance, tyres, depreciation, insurance and other vehicle expenses. The IRS standard mileage rate is a tax-related reference and is not necessarily equal to your own cash expense or economic cost.

For 2026, the IRS business standard mileage rate is $0.725 per mile for January 1 through June 30 and $0.76 per mile for July 1 through December 31. The selector above changes the reference amount for the miles entered. It does not calculate your tax liability or establish whether a particular expense is deductible.

How to use the estimator

  • Enter the batch pay shown in the shopper app.
  • Add any applicable promotion or boost.
  • Enter the expected or final customer tip.
  • Enter the total business miles you want to attribute to the batch.
  • Optionally enter your own estimated vehicle cost per mile.
  • Select the applicable 2026 IRS mileage-rate period to view the separate reference amount.
  • Review gross earnings per mile and estimated net earnings after vehicle cost.

Important limitations

  • Results depend on the amounts and mileage you enter.
  • Tips, promotions and available batches can vary.
  • The estimator does not calculate income taxes, self-employment taxes or final tax deductions.
  • The estimator does not include unpaid time, shopping time, waiting time or other expenses unless you account for them separately.
  • The IRS mileage reference is not subtracted from earnings and should not be treated as your actual vehicle cost.
  • The result is an estimate, not a guaranteed platform payout or a statement from Instacart.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instacart pay a fixed amount per mile?

No single fixed per-mile amount should be assumed for every batch. Batch pay can reflect job-related factors such as travel distance, item quantity and weight, and expected shopping time. Use the batch-pay amount and mileage relevant to the batch you are evaluating.

Do tips count as gross earnings in this estimator?

Yes. The calculator adds the tip amount you enter to batch pay and promotions. If a tip is not final, the result is an estimate and may change.

What should I enter for business miles?

Enter the business miles you want to associate with the batch. If you drove to the store or made other relevant business trips, the displayed delivery distance alone may not represent all miles driven.

Is the IRS mileage rate my actual vehicle cost?

No. The IRS standard mileage rate is a tax-related reference. Your actual vehicle cost can differ. Enter your own cost-per-mile estimate to calculate the net-after-vehicle-cost result.

Why can net earnings per mile be negative?

If the vehicle cost you enter exceeds the gross earnings, the estimated net amount will be negative. This means the batch does not cover that assumed vehicle cost before taxes and other expenses.

Does this calculator determine my tax deduction?

No. It multiplies the entered business miles by the selected IRS mileage-rate reference for comparison. It does not determine eligibility, tax deductions, taxable income or tax liability.
